Rishikesh’s Clean Plastic Collection Drives (2024–2025–2026)
🛠️ Initiated By: Taoveda Dimensions NGO
📅 Started From: 2023
🌟 Project Objective
Since 2023, Taoveda Dimensions NGO has been actively working to reduce plastic pollution in the Visthapit area, AIIMS surroundings, and nearby regions of Rishikesh.
The mission was started to tackle the growing problem of human-generated plastic waste polluting the Ganga River, forests, and nearby residential areas.
This initiative focused on:
✅ Creating awareness about plastic waste segregation
✅ Teaching people how to separate dry and wet waste properly
✅ Promoting clean plastic collection and safe storage methods
✅ Encouraging people to reduce single-use plastic
✅ Protecting soil, water, air, and wildlife from plastic pollution
✅ Building community participation for a cleaner and greener Rishikesh

📍 Scope of the Project
📍 Location:
Visthapit Area, AIIMS surroundings, and nearby Ganga River regions, Rishikesh
📈 Key Concerns:
🌳 Plastic waste was affecting nature and wildlife including deer, elephants, foxes, cows, dogs, and migratory birds such as Siberian ducks.
🚫 Improper disposal and burning of plastic waste were causing:
Soil pollution
Water pollution
Air pollution
Harm to animals and birds
Health risks for local communities
♻️ Taoveda Plastic Bank InitiativeTo solve this issue, Taoveda Dimensions NGO introduced and promoted the Taoveda Plastic Bank.
Under this initiative:
People were educated about proper plastic segregation
Households were guided to keep plastic clean and dry before storage
Separate awareness sessions were conducted for children, women, and local families
Dry and wet waste segregation was explained practically
Many children participated very actively and became strong motivators in their homes and neighborhoods.
After seeing the children’s efforts, many women also joined and started collecting, cleaning, and storing plastic waste properly before handing it over to us.
This created a positive chain reaction in the community.
📦 Monthly Plastic Collection ImpactThrough regular awareness drives and household participation:
♻️ Around 100 KG of plastic waste per month was collected from different households.
Instead of allowing this plastic to pollute nature, it was safely donated to different MRF (Material Recovery Facility) Centers for proper recycling and waste management.
This helped in:
✅ Saving soil from toxic pollution
✅ Protecting groundwater and the Ganga River
✅ Reducing harmful smoke caused by burning plastic
✅ Creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
🤝 Community ParticipationThis drive became successful because of:
👧 Children leading by example
👩 Women actively contributing from households
🏘️ Local families supporting clean plastic storage
🚛 Waste collection support from local systemsThe project proved that small actions by the community can create a big environmental impact.
🌍 Vision Forward
Our goal is not just plastic collection, but building a long-term culture of environmental responsibility.
Taoveda Dimensions NGO continues to work toward:
🌱 Plastic-free communities
🌊 Cleaner Ganga River
🌳 Safer forests and wildlife
♻️ Sustainable waste management practices
🤝 Stronger citizen participation for nature conservation
Expense Breakdown🚛 Transportation & Plastic Transfer

This includes:
Local transport arrangements
Loading and unloading support
Vehicle fuel and travel expenses
Collection drive movement across Visthapit area, AIIMS surroundings, and nearby Ganga regions
💰 Project Costing & FundingFully Funded By: Taoveda Dimensions NGO
The entire Clean Plastic Collection Drive has been independently funded and managed by Taoveda Dimensions NGO without depending on external financial support.
The organization has continuously invested its own resources to ensure regular plastic collection, awareness programs, transportation, and proper disposal of collected waste.
📊 Estimated Annual Cost (Per Year)The total yearly operational cost for running the project ranges between:
₹30,000 to ₹40,000 INR per year
This includes all major activities required for the smooth functioning of the initiative.

👷 Manpower Support
Although much of the work is community-driven, manpower is needed for:
Waste collection coordination
Plastic segregation supervision
Household visits
Collection point management
Supporting women and children during segregation activities
Monitoring storage and dispatch of collected plastic
📢 Awareness Campaign Expenses
Continuous awareness is the backbone of this initiative.
Expenses include:
Community awareness sessions
School and children engagement activities
Women-led awareness meetings
Plastic segregation demonstrations
Posters, banners, and educational materials
Public communication and motivational outreach
🧤 Safety & Basic Collection Support
To ensure safe handling of waste during drives, the project also requires:
Gloves
Collection bags
Cleaning tools
Temporary storage arrangements
Basic operational materials for volunteers
(Some support like garbage van collection and basic tools was also facilitated by Nagar Nigam Rishikesh during specific drives.)
🌱 Why This Investment Matters
Even a small yearly investment of ₹30,000–₹40,000 creates a large environmental impact by preventing hundreds of kilograms of plastic waste from entering the soil, forests, and the Ganga River.
This project proves that environmental protection does not always require massive funding—consistent local action and responsible community participation can create real and lasting change.
